About Us.....
I have been involved with Belgians since 1989. My first Groenendael was a pet male from the Torbrook
Kennels. Casey taught me a lot about Belgians and was the reason why I fell in love with this breed.
I love their devotion to their family, willingness to work with a smile, their intellegance, and the
protective qualities they have for their family and property. Before long I added a second Belgian and
she too came from the Torbrook Kennels. Elsa was my introduction into the show world as well as my
first breeding female. She was quite a high energy girl that kept me on my feet involved in many dogs
sports and activities. At the time we were living outside of Edmonton Alberta and I was an active member with the Northern Alberta Belgian Sheepdog Club.
In 1992 Windmar Kennels became CKC registered and in 1993 I had my first Belgian litter, a litter of 8!!
Due to health reasons Elsa was spayed shortly after her one and only litter. She had her first Epileptic seizure at around 4 years of age. This is a heriditary health problem in Belgians (all varieties) and it taught me to be more vigilant in researching lines as well as careful screening of any breeding stock. All my breeding stock is OFA'd for hips and elbows, CERF'd for eyes, seizure free (including siblings, parents, grandparents), and some have been thyroid tested.
In 1997 a beautiful girl joined Windmar from the Spitfire Kennels in Texas. She was to be my new foundation female and she lived up to the task in every way. Ch. Spitfire Lonestar Jamboree HIC produced 4 litters for me and passed on her confident, easy going attitude as well as her health to her offspring. She has produced some lovely companions as well as wonderful working dogs. I have 3 of her offspring and have Conformation and working titles on them. I enjoy being involved in the community with my Belgians and need a temperament that is social, easy going, and confident. My line is slightly soft, in meaning that they don't need a lot of harsness in correction or voice to respond. They tend to love to please and smile while they work!!
In 2001 I moved to the Calgary area and have found many more dog sports to be involved with. I am a long time member of the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) as well as the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Canada. For the past 2 years I have enjoyed membership with the SAWDA club (Southern Alberta Working/Herding Dog Association) and with my dogs have attended Pet Expos, Parades, Pet visitation at Senior Centers, Community events, Festivals, Carting Events and the list is still growing! I have trialed my Belgians in Obedience, Rally, Agility, as well as showing in Conformation. At this time I am training towards Herding Trials and Carting Trials for 2010.
