Ch. Torbrook's Elsa CD HIC
March 1990 - June 2004
Hips OFA: BSD-1510G29F-T
Eyes Cerf: coloboma in the optic nerve in left eye
Owned by J. Michaud/Windmar
Elsa was my first introduction into the competition and conformation world as well as my first breeding female. She was a very confident girl, with a wonderful solid temperament always wanting to please. She was very active and kept me busy. Won many BOS as well as some BB in her show career. At her first show at 6 months her father went BB-Gr.3, sister BOS/WF, and Elsa took RWF beating many class dogs.
Elsa was a superb obedience dog and never got a chance to complete her CDX. Training leading up to a trial would bring joy to her, but also brought on a seizure. Her one and only CDX trial was at the 1996 BSDCC National Specialty in which she completed every requirement perfectly, but only after she cleaned up the outdoor ring of dog bait from the Puppy Sweeps classes prior to the obedience trials. She made sure the ring was clear for the other dogs competing. The judge however, didn't pass us as he felt she should have ignored the tons of tempting bait hidden in the grass.
Elsa was a petite, fine boned girl standing 22" x 22" tall, brown almond eye, scissors bite, nice movement. She was dam to Windmar's A Litter and spayed shortly after due to health reasons. Elsa had an epileptic seizure at around 4 years of age (her first) and dealt with seizures throughout her life, till she passed away at just over 14 years of age. She was the only offspring out of 3 litters her sire and dam produced, to seizure.
Torbrook's Colby CD HIC (aka Casey)
May 1989 - December, 2000
Mon-orchid - neutured
Died from a heart attack as the result of a blood clot.
Owned by J. Michaud/Windmar
Casey was my first Belgian and my companion. He never made it to the conformation ring as he ended up being mon-orchid. He did enjoy tagging along with his younger sister to the shows as he got lots of attention from visitors. Casey was a BIG grinner, loved to go places and meet people, protective of his family and always keeping the kids in sight. He didn't excell in obedience like his younger sister and was too smart for the ring when trialling CDX. Gave the judges a good laugh when he chose an exercise to mess up, then ask for forgiveness with his big smile... knowing that I couldn't correct him in the ring. We gave up our CDX quest after entering many trials with no Q's. Casey's favorite activity was pulling the sled to the nearby school to drop my son off. He also enjoyed playing ball, operating my son's Fisher Price flashlight to chase the light (would do this for hours to entertain himself), and the chance to work sheep.
Casey was a more refined Belgian, brown almond eyes, high ear set, long dark coat, scissors bite, 24 1/2" in height.
We lost Casey to soon. Vet determined he had a blod clot that caused a heart attack.
